Legionnaires do double duty. A special double-duty detail was planned for the Oaks at Brookshire for members of the Katy Jonathan D. Rozier Post 164 American Legion after the New Year ’s holiday.
The first mission was to take down all the Christmas lights and decorations, and clean, pack and put them away. Legionnaires visited the Brookshire center in late November to work with the staff and residents installing the decorations.
The group also installed a modification to the Oaks’ flagpole because the mechanism in the base of the pole that hoists the flag was damaged, and the center preferred a standard halyard for hand raising and lowering the flag.Ron Stiles, a veteran and member of Post 164, has taken on responsibility for properly displaying “Old Glory.” Others who took part in the dual project were Evelyn Bonds, social director at The Oaks; and Legion members Ralph West, Barry, Ernie Cormier, Stan Kitzman and Paul Dudkowski.
