Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus celebrated its “topping out” ceremony on July 8 with a colorful, ribbon-filled “Dream Tree” raised to the roof of the new TCH West Campus building. Six local children ages 3-13 –selected from all area children who submitted dreams for the tree–were the stars of the ceremony and, together with Texas Children’s President and CEO Mark A. Wallace, gave the signal to raise the Dream Tree. The Dream Tree was decorated with hundreds of bright ribbons, each representing a dream from a local child. Child participants from the West Houston area included: Gavin Wade Morgan, 3; Brandon Wees, 4; Emily Schaefer, 5; Miranda Elizabeth Smith, 11; Valencia Wilson-Weathers, 9; Tobin Creswell, 13; and the Morton Ranch High School Maverick Band. The fun, colorful Dream Tree ceremony was a wonderful community celebration.

Newell Cheatheam, an International building designer of Katy, was awarded second-place honors in Graphic Design Presentation for 2,500 square feet and under custom home design by the Design Jury of the Texas Institute of Building Design of the American Institute of Building Design. The 1,325-square-foot, three- bedroom lake house design is stucco and cast stone.

Faith West Academy Preschool has been selected for the second consecutive year to receive the 2009 Best of Katy Award in the preschool category by the U.S. Local Business Association.
The USLBA “Best of Local Business” Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USLBA identifies companies that it believes have achieved exceptional marketing success in the local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USLBA and data provided by third parties.
“We are honored to have been chosen for this award recognizing the achievements in education, ” said Seledia Smith, preschool director.  “I am very proud of my staff. They are committed to providing the highest quality of Christian education. Our teachers model excellence classroom management and provide innovative instruction. ”

CHRISTUS St. Catherine Hospital has once again earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety.
“Above all, the national standards are intended to stimulate continuous, systematic and organization-wide improvement in an organization ’s performance and the outcomes of care,” says Mark Pelletier, R.N., M.S., executive director, Hospital Programs, Accreditation and Certification Services, The Joint Commission. “The community should be proud that CHRISTUS St. Catherine Hospital is focusing on the most challenging goal —to continuously raise quality and safety to higher levels.”
Jack McCabe, CHRISTUS St. Catherine Hospital CEO, commended physicians and hospital staff on an organization-wide commitment to provide quality care on an ongoing basis. “The medical staff and associates work continuously to ensure our patients receive quality care in a safe environment. This successful survey is proof of that effort, ” says McCabe.
