Katy Elks and the Youth of Katy Win Again. During the Texas Elks State Association convention, Katy Elks Lodge 2628
garnered a total of 11 awards
—seven for the lodge itself and four for area youth.
The State Youth Awards went to Katy students Patricia Carole Gregorie, first place as Female Teenager of the Year; Shelby Breen, first place in the Essay Contest; Jordan Shafer, 7th-8th grade division, second place in the Americanism Essay Contest; and Kelsey Hidaigo, 7th-8th grade division, third place in the Americanism Essay Contest.
Two of the most significant awards the Katy Elks Lodge received were the Best
Overall Lodge Youth Program and the Best Overall Bulletin. Other awards
included total numbers of Hoop Shoot participants plus Total and Per Capita
Funds raised to help Texas youth and other Elk programs.
An additional highlight was the installation of local Elks member and PER Bob Boyett as president of TESA. The State TESA Sweetheart award is determined solely by
funds raised by the lodge sweethearts and is used to help fund programs for the
youth of Texas.
Darlene Crisamore, this year’s State Sweetheart, is the 11th Katy recipient. She and the Katy Elks raised
$48,000.
sporting clay scholarship fundraiser event a success. The Sporting Clay Scholarship Fundraiser event generated funds toward two
scholarships.
John Zerwas and Randy Smith thank everyone for their support of the event as well as local businesses that
provided door prizes. The scholarships being awarded this year are the Fort
Bend Sheriff
’s Deputy Student Scholarship and Future Leaders Student Scholarship.

GREATER KATY EXCHANGE CLUB
OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS INSTALLED. The Greater Katy Exchange Club’s 2009-10 officers and directors were installed by Susan Swartz, La-Texas Gulf Coast Exchange Club president. Newly installed

Flag Day Observed at Katy Elks Lodge. At the recent Flag Day ceremony at Katy Elks Lodge 2628, lodge officers, local
American Legion members and members of Boy Scout Troops 1224 and 490 joined
together to increase community knowledge of the flag as it was honored and
celebrated.
The ceremony was narrated by Elks member Darlene Crisamore, the current Elks State Sweetheart, who is also retired from the military.
Attending veterans were recognized in groups according to their branch of
service. Flag Day observance is an annual activity at all Elks Lodges.

VFW gets record item for July Fourth auction block. Mac Haik Automotive Group donated the largest contribution to date, $4,000 for
the annual Independence Day auction. Live and silent auctions were held at the

to VFW auction chair Mike Mastrangelo for the annual Independence Day auction.

Jeff Smith at Katy’s Hasta LaPasta restaurant.
The July 4 event is the major fundraiser conducted by the local VFW post to help
support its community service activities throughout the year.

The club will receive more than 25 community service award patches and a
National Service Award from the National Exchange Club.
