Katy Student Cheers with Houston Texans Jr. Cheerleaders - Taylor, a student in Katy ISD, enjoys cheering for the Houston Texans. She has participated in the Jr. cheerleading activities since the inauguration of the program three years ago.

Academic All-State Football Team - The Academic All-State Football Team was announced and Morton Ranch High School had three players recognized for their efforts: Matt Bowman, second team All-State; Martin Balch, honorable mention All-State; and Kris Yarger, honorable mention All-State.

WoodCreek Elementary Receives Exemplary Rating - WoodCreek Elementary received an Exemplary campus accountability rating. School ratings are determined with set criteria using data from the previous school year. The state of Texas classifies all elementary schools into one of four ratings: Exemplary, Recognized, Academically Acceptable and Academically Unacceptable based on TAKS performance.
WoodCreek Elementary is constantly striving to improve its curriculum delivery so that each child has the opportunity to reach his or her highest potential.

Cub Scout Pack 925 December Service Project - Cub Scout Pack 925 performed a service project in December. Pack members gathered and compiled items for the Christmas boxes to support the ministry to the Port of Houston annual Christmas Gift Box Program. The boys compiled and wrapped 37 boxes and delivered them to the port.

Rylander Pack 542 Helps Scout Family - Bear Den 1 from Pack 542 at Rylander Elementary learned the power of giving back to others. One of their fellow Scout ’s families was hit with a tragic event and the other boys in the den stepped in to help out. The boys met and baked homemade cookies and grilled pigs-n-a-blanket to take to the family. The Bear Scouts also created a handmade card to try and cheer up their friend.

Morton Ranch HS Academic Decathlon Team Readies for Competition - The Morton Ranch High School Academic Decathlon team members used Christmas Break as an opportunity to further their studying as they prepare to make the trip to this year ’s state competition.
Team members include: Ivette Marquez, James Chargois, Vanessa Palmer, Brandon Montgomery, Rene Lara, Ambi Bobmanuel, Haley Jones, Andrew Hanson, and Humberto Garcia. Alternates are: Jesus DeLaCruz and Kaitlyn O’Dell. The team is coached by Carrie McDaniel, Lauri Crestani and Mary Pyron.

2nd Annual Battle in the Barn Winners - Faculty and Staff of Morton Ranch High School participated in the FFA’s 2nd annual Battle in the Barn. The winners were: Sheep – Grand Champion Showmanship, Mrs. Hurley;
Reserve Champion Showmanship, Ms. Worthington; Goats – Grand Champion Showmanship, Coach Orsagh; Reserve Champion Showmanship, Mrs. Luna; Swine – Grand Champion Showmanship, Mrs. Crestani; Reserve Champion Showmanship, Ms. Nite; Steers – Grand Champion Showmanship, Ms. Nite; and Reserve Champion Showmanship, Coach Orsagh.

Memorial Parkway JH Beginner Band Enjoys Party at Rocket City - Memorial Parkway Junior High School Beginner Band partied at Rocket City. Even Director David Lorine joined in the fun. The mostly sixth-graders enjoyed the buffet before heading towards the games. The band students and directors bowled, drove bumper cars, danced and played air hockey.
Sarah Staerker, August Robinson, Emily Saunders and Leah Strader enjoy each other ’s company at Rocket City.

Woodcreek JH Dedication - Woodcreek Junior High School opened its doors to many new and excited students, parents and staff in September. The newly constructed building boasts a two-story structure housing more than 900 students for its first school year.  
The dedication for the school was celebrated in November to a very full house consisting of students, parents, faculty, the PTA board members and special guests in our community, including Katy Mayor Don Elder Jr., KISD Superintendent Alton Frailey, and many more.  
The WCJH choir and orchestra, and student pianists entertained the crowd. Principal Patti Shafer’s family traveled long distances to celebrate and support her at this special dedication.
Proudly displaying her award medals is Agnese Foppiani, winner of both the memorization contest and practice time contest in the piano division.

Cinco Ranch Conservatory of Music Holds Holiday Recital - Cinco Ranch Conservatory of Music held its first annual Holiday Recital at the Grand Lakes Presbyterian Church. Approximately 70 students of violin, viola, cello, guitar and piano performed at this event.
Major award winners were: orchestral strings –  Ethan Vargas and Victoria Vargas; guitar – Jorge Correa and Tres Brenan; and piano – Agnese Foppiani.  
The audience was treated to a traditional recital selection, and a holiday-themed selection.
