Volunteers and employees at the Special Pals Shelter with donations received from Trick or Treat So Pets Can Eat.
trick or treat so pets can eat. Community Beginner Tai Chi and Belly Dance instructors Trina Maxwell and Cynthia Leathers celebrated Halloween going door to door in local neighborhoods to “Trick or Treat So Pets Can Eat,” collecting much needed donations for the already full to capacity Special Pals Shelter location on Greenhouse Road.
Items including bleach, paper goods, pet food, toys and blankets collected during the outing nearly doubled the generous donations given by students like Christine Hempel who helped deliver the donations.

Community Support Helps Katy Elks Contribute to Others. The Katy Elks Lodge 2628 has been busy with the Rice Harvest Festival booth featuring their legendary “designer fries,” the Bike Rally and Biker Ball, which have all contributed to funds raised to support programs for area youth and veterans.
The Bike Rally brought out fewer bikers than anticipated, but was still a success according to event chair Tony Stoltz. A silent auction added to the goal of the lodge sweetheart, Kelli Frizzell, to once again make Katy Lodge the district sweetheart winner and get one step nearer to being state sweetheart.

Wallace Klekar,
dar celebrates National American Indian Heritage Month. To celebrate the month of November as National American Indian Heritage Month, the Star of Destiny Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, asked Katy Mayor Don Elder Jr. to sign a proclamation to remember and celebrate the remarkable contributions made by the Native people of North America and to honor the unique heritage of the continent ’s first inhabitants.
In addition to honoring Native Americans through this proclamation, the Star of Destiny Chapter had a program around this theme. Annette Soaring Hawks discussed her genealogical lineage and the impact of Native Americans in the Revolutionary War. The Star of Destiny Chapter, through NSDAR, made a monetary donation to the American Indian Youth Camp.

Katy Elks Gather for fall conference. The Texas Elks State Association fall conference held in Kerrville brought together approximately 400 Elks and family members to learn, have fun and plan for better ways to help the youth of Texas and the Elks programs for veterans. Katy Elks Lodge 2628 was well represented with nearly 20 attending.
Bob Boyett, state TESA president and Katy Elks member, along with his wife, Sandi, each had tremendous input that helped make the conference a memorable and effective one for all. Sandi is still working on raising funds to provide a seventh week of camp for an additional 50 special needs campers.
