CHAIR-ish the Arts
Putting on an art exhibition is a lot of work, but the ARTreach team had a lot of fun with this one. They were proud to showcase area artists in the beautiful setting of the Villagio Town Center Community Room. Many works of art were sold. Food for the reception was provided by Berryhill of Cinco Ranch,  which is a great ARTreach supporter. The wine was provided courtesy of Katie Biggers of Chateau Leonard Wines. Of course, all this fun adds up to ARTreach being able to continue its efforts to bring arts education to those in need. Go to www.artreachonline.org for more information on ARTreach.

Chad Jones
On Oct. 26 at the City Council meeting, Katy Mayor Don Elder Jr. presented Chad’s parents and his sister, Jessica, with a proclamation declaring Tuesday, Oct. 27, as Chad Jones Organ Donor Registration Day. They were surrounded by family and friends. The date would have been Chad ’s 22nd birthday and brings awareness to the importance of organ and tissue donation.
“Chad donated his heart, liver and kidneys so four strangers could live happy productive lives with their families, ” Sheree said. “We found out (the other day) that his heart went to a musician from Houston who is back playing different venues around town. We ’re very happy for him. Hopefully, we will get to meet him within the next year.
“Unfortunately, this is not happening enough,” she said. “I feel there is a severe shortage of registered organ donors in our state. Texas has 400,000 registered organ donors, and Georgia has 3.5 million. I think this is a pathetic statistic from one of the largest states in the United States. ”
State Rep. John Zerwas also issued a resolution commending the family for promoting organ donation in the community, and area businesses, hospitals and schools helped honor Chad by hosting donor registration drives.

Hats Off to Katy!
It was a great evening spent outdoors on the beautiful terrace at La Centerra and a chance to see the wonderful hats created by celebrity milliners that went to the highest bidder at the event. The evening was also an opportunity for the Heritage Society to celebrate its 30th anniversary. KHS recognized its charter members and gave gifts to those who are still members today. I was honored to receive the Outstanding Volunteer Award from KHS. The money raised at the event will go towards funding future programs. If you ’d like more information about KHS, visit www.katyheritagesociety.com.

Stan C. Stanley Elementary Dedication
Civic leader Stan Stanley shared his thoughts about the nature of heroes at the Oct. 4 dedication of the school named in his honor. Introducing him to approximately 900 attendees at the ceremony, Principal Kerri Finnesand said, “Heroes are people who rise to the occasion and slip quietly away. Truer words have never been more appropriately spoken when I think of our school ’s name sake.  Mr. Stanley is always the first to offer support, but the last to expect accolades. Mr. Stanley has spent his life being a role model for children, serving his community, and inspiring those around him. ”
The school is named after long-time Katy-area civic leader Stan C. Stanley. A resident of Katy since 1977, he has volunteered his time to the district in a wide variety of roles, including Junior Achievement, Classroom Champions, Promise to Read and Keep Encouraging Youth
toward Success (KEYS), the district’s mentoring program. Through his 50-year involvement in Boy Scouts of America, Stanley has managed to touch the lives of Katy ISD students both in and out of the classroom. A reception followed the ceremony.
