Stan C. Stanley Elementary Dedication
Civic leader Stan Stanley shared his thoughts about the nature of heroes at the
Oct. 4 dedication of the school named in his honor. Introducing him to
approximately 900 attendees at the ceremony, Principal Kerri Finnesand said,
“Heroes are people who rise to the occasion and slip quietly away. Truer words
have never been more appropriately spoken when I think of our school
’s name sake. Mr. Stanley is always the first to offer support, but the last to expect
accolades. Mr. Stanley has spent his life being a role model for children,
serving his community, and inspiring those around him.
”
The school is named after long-time Katy-area civic leader Stan C. Stanley. A
resident of Katy since 1977, he has volunteered his time to the district in a
wide variety of roles, including Junior Achievement, Classroom Champions,
Promise to Read and Keep Encouraging Youth

toward Success (KEYS), the district’s mentoring program. Through his 50-year involvement in Boy Scouts of America,
Stanley has managed to touch the lives of Katy ISD students both in and out of
the classroom. A reception followed the ceremony.
