Girl Scouts Make a Difference To Children in Community - In pursuit of the Bronze Award, three members of Girl Scout Troop 17019 decided to make a
difference in the lives of children this past holiday season.
Rylander Elementary fifth-graders Keely Hughes, Hannah Puccia and Kate Lovett raised funds to purchase fabric to create and produce double layered,
fringe-knotted fleece blankets. These were presented to Denise Owen and her
staff at Katy
’s Breath of Life Clinic, which provides a present to each child who comes to the
clinic in December.

of Scholastic Book Clubs
’ ClassroomsCare program.
Classrooms around the country are joining Super Bowl MVPs Peyton and Eli Manning
and Scholastic Book Clubs to donate a million books to disadvantaged children
by meeting the goal of reading 100 books per classroom.

Katy Students Perform in Houston’s Center Stage Theater’s Annie - Katy has some local talent working hard to make Houston’s Center Stage Theater’s production of Annie a huge success. Annie will be performed on Feb. 12-14 and Feb. 19-21 at The Berry Center, 8877 Barker
Cypress.
McMeans Junior High student Hope Harris has been cast as the lead role of Annie on Feb. 12, 7:30 p.m., Feb. 14, 2:30
p.m., Feb. 19 and Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. Hope is a member of Sugarland Express
Singers. Natalie Holley of Cy-Fair is playing Annie on Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and
Feb. 21 at 2:30 p.m.
Emily Thompson, a Memorial Parkway Junior High student, is cast as Pepper. Emily is a member
of Theatre Under the Stars and will play Pepper on Feb. 13, Feb. 20 and Feb. 21
at 2:30 p.m. She is a part of the Orphan Ensemble on the other days.
Holly Harris is a student in the K-12 program. She is a dance student and has performed with
her sister, Hope, in singing duets. Holly is a member of the Orphans Ensemble
for all dates.

All American Cheerleader Travels to London - Kylie Terry, a sophomore at Pope John XXIII in Katy, won All American Cheerleader at the
United Cheer Association Summer Camp at Texas A
&M University this past summer.
As an All American, Kylie qualified to cheer in the London New Year’s Day Parade. She flew with her mom to England where they toured London with
other cheerleaders from around the country as well as marched and cheered in
London
’s New Year’s Day Parade.
While in London, they toured Windsor Palace, Buckingham Palace, saw the Tower
Bridge, rode the Eye of London and met many other All American cheerleaders
from around the country.

Madrigal Night a Success for Taylor HS Choir - The Taylor High School Choir hosted the 26th annual Madrigal Dinner. This
magical event is a gala celebration of music and merrymaking featuring
performances by the entire choral department.

Katy Boys Playing New England Prep School Hockey - Two former Cinco Ranch High School students, Peter Jude Galasso and Sean McCullum, are attending Brewster Academy In Wolfeboro, N.H., to play competitive ice
hockey.
Both boys are seniors and in their second year at the private boarding school.
Each played for many years in the local Houston youth hockey programs and
eventually at Cinco Ranch. The move north has enabled them to compete at the
highest levels possible in high school hockey, and to gain exposure to the many
college coaches that recruit players from the New England Prep School Division
1 League.
Their team is off to a solid start with six wins against four losses, including
a championship at the Berwick Tournament. Another plus for the Katy boys is
that Peter was named captain and Sean as an alternate.
Coyote Choir Celebrates Holidays - Cinco Ranch Junior High’s Coyote Choir held its annual holiday performance at the Cinco Ranch High
School Performing Arts Center. Holiday music was provided by the sixth-grade,
junior varsity, varsity and coyote jazz choir ensemble choirs and was enjoyed
by family and friends. The Cinco Ranch Junior High Choir is directed by
Judy Bou Kher and Susie Low.

Katy TKD’s Newest Black Belts - The Katy TaeKwonDo Academy announced its newest class of black belt and high
rank students and instructors. Students who earned their First Degree Level 1
“Probationary” Black Belt are: Kavya Chandran, Matthew Duzant, Christina Jones, Efren Munoz, Nicholas Munoz, James Nicholson, Nicole Powell, Alberto Rios, Keaton Walker and Catherine Weldon.
Earning their First Degree Level 2 “Decided” Black Belt are: Madison Brost, Ryan Brost, Max Conway, Mike Gonzales, Michael Komplin, Brandon Matute, Colton Woelffer and Gretchen Woelffer.
Ava Conde and Nikki Harris earned their Second Degree Black Belts; and Erin Edwards and Randy Wochy earned their Third Degree Black Belts.
High Rank Black Belts train for many years before earning their next rank and
perform their exam at an International TaeKwonDo Alliance training event.
Nilesh Popat earned his Fourth Degree Senior Black Belt and Michael Reade earned his Fifth Degree Black Belt.
Dedicated students who are now ITA Instructors are: Level 1 Instructor Michael Komplin; Level 2 Instructors Joshua Dubrow, Emily Dudek, Brandon Komplin, Jacob Roopch and Christina Weldon.
The pinnacle of ITA instructor training is to become a Certified Instructor,
which includes martial arts skills training, 275 documented assisting hours,
class planning and CPR/First Aid certification.
Shyam Popat has beome an International Certified Instructor.
