BEGINNING FEB 25
Katy ISD FFA Rodeo
The 2010 Katy Rodeo will offer a three-night rodeo venue beginning on Feb. 25. This event features an eight-event professional rodeo and the youth events.
This 67th Annual Rodeo showcases traditional cowboy action such as calf roping, barrel racing, bareback riding, steer wrestling and bull riding on all three nights. Each night, along with the pro cowboy events and funny-man act, will be the crowd favorite,  Katy ISD youth events featuring stick horse race, mutton busting, calf scramble, junior calf-roping and junior barrel racing.
The event will feature carnival rides. On Saturday, a Ranch Rodeo exhibition, which debuted in 2005 with great success, will have four nontraditional team rodeo events of doctoring, mugging, de-tagging and branding. A full schedule of events can be found at www.KatyRodeo.org.
special pals shelter needs help
Special Pals shelter needs help from the community. During the recent freezing temperatures, 17 water pipes froze and broke at the shelter. It took three days, two volunteers and a plumber working whatever hours they could to help out. Special Pals furry friends were safe inside small kennels, keeping warm as best they could.
All the pipes are fixed now, but shelter workers haven’t been able to find any insulated pipe wrapping to cover the new water lines in anticipation of another freeze. The following items are needed: insulated pipe wrap, 3/4-inch and 1/2-inch, large dog crates, clay cat litter, and good adoptive homes.
The shelter has many loving companion animals that have been overlooked due to the hard financial times and busy holidays. Consider choosing one of these loving animals to be a part of your family
Several companion animals are at half price because they have been at the shelter a long time waiting in a kennel just for you.
