barry sea paradox performs,
every saturday
The Barry Sea Paradox performs every Saturday from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Mercury Bar in Cinco Ranch. Mercury Bar is a martini jazz lounge with an emphasis on artisan beer and wines.
One of Texas’ hottest groups, the Barry Sea Paradox has a hit smooth jazz CD that’s received lots of radio airplay. The group features long-time Katy residents Barry and Bobbie Sea (Siegel). They ’ve appeared at many of Texas’ finest clubs playing music they describe as smooth jazz with a rough edge called soul.
The Mercury Bar is located at 22756 Westheimer Parkway, Ste. 190, between Mason Road and Grand Parkway in the Villagio Town Center.

mondays with mommy, second monday of each month
LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch and the Katy Area Moxie Moms present “Mondays with Mommy,” a free series of events and activities for preschoolers, parents and playgroups. The 2010 series, “When I grow up, I want to be a ...” focuses on popular professions and acquaints kids with familiar faces in the community.
Mondays with Mommy will be held on the second Monday of each month from 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Series events are free and open to the public. Events include a “pay it forward” beneficiary offering participants the opportunity to lend support to area nonprofits.

kira sushi hand pulled noodle show, tuesdays, thursdays and saturdays at 8 p.m.
A new food preparation show is happening three nights a week at Kira Sushi for the entertainment of diners. Kira ’s noodle expert, Wilson Wang, presents an exciting Hand Pulled Noodle Show using Dragon Beard Noodles. The show and Wang ’s talents are designed to impress audiences. The Katy Library has exciting events and activities planned during the month of February.
Club Hispano de Libros will meet on Feb. 3 at 6 p.m. This group of Spanish speaking adults gets together on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss a book. The selection for February is La Isla Baja el Mar by Isabel Allende.
The Who Dun It? Mystery Group will meet on Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. Mystery fans get together on the first Saturday of each month to discuss their reading. February ’s selection is The Book
of Old Houses by Sarah Graves.
Weekly Programs at the library include: Baby Bounce on Mondays at 10:30 a.m. This is an active storytime for infants 3-18 months.
Bilingual Storytime is held every Monday at 2 p.m. This program features stories for young children, moms and dads to share the fun of reading in another language.
Preschool Storytime is held every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. and is recommended for children 3 to 6 years old. Children enjoy stories, songs, fingerplays and occasional crafts.
The Knitting and Crochet Club meets each Wednesday at 1 p.m. Learn new techniques, teach someone else, or just hang out with other crafters. All ages are welcome.
Basic Internet Classes are held every Thursday at 11a.m. Learn the fundamentals of using the Internet. The last Thursday of the month will feature some of the library ’s special databases on subjects such as genealogy, magazines, homework help, health information and more.
Commemorate Black History Month by listening to selected readings by local poet, Alice Redditt on Feb. 6 from 1 p.m.-3 p.m.
Job Search Seminar Series will be held on Feb. 2, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Topics include rebranding your skills, interviewing and networking. Register at the Katy Library.

The Arc of Katy’s Fourth Annual Charity Gala, “Together We Can” will be held on Feb. 26 at Pine Forest Country Club. Katy Mayor Don Elder will serve as the honorary chairman.

making a difference together parent conference, feb. 27
The 5th Annual “Making a Difference Together “ Parent Conference and Resource Fair, co-sponsored by Family to Family Network and the Katy ISD Special Education Department, will be held on Saturday, Feb.27, at Morton Ranch High School.
This free conference is offered to parents of children (ages birth to adult) with any type of disability. It will cover a variety of educational, medical and family-based topics relevant to
raising a child with a disability. Four breakout sessions will be available, with more than 20-25 topics per session. A number of presentations will be offered in Spanish.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. on conference day. chopin 200th anniversary
concert, feb. 27
The Chopin Society of Houston will celebrate Chopin’s 200th birthday on Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. with a concert featuring pianist Adam Golka, a former Nottingham Country Elementary and Memorial Parkway Junior High student, and conductor Tomasz Golka, who attended Taylor High School. They will perform Chopin ’s two beloved piano concertos with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra at Rice University ’s Stude Concert Hall.

and runway race, march 6
Fetch your sneakers and your furry friend for the 2010 Houston SPCA Mutt Strut and Runway Race presented by Houston Airport System and sponsored by VCA Animal Hospitals and Hill ’s Science Diet on March 6. This is your opportunity to strut your stuff with your mutt on the runway at George Bush Intercontinental Airport in the 5K Runway Race or a one-mile Mutt Strut.
There is no fee to enter but participants are encouraged to collect pledges and earn great prizes at the same time or sign up as a Cat Napper participant and be a virtual walker by raising pledges to help Houston ’s homeless animals.

Katy High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Terence Gorton, will present the 24th annual Sentimental Journey – Music & Memories on March 6 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Enjoy the smooth sounds of the award winning KHS jazz band, with special guest vocalists, as they play big band favorites, such as Pennsylvania 65000, Moon River and In The Mood. Dinner and dancing will make the evening complete.

Scheduled for Saturday, April 10, The Cross Creek Ranch Arts Festival is issuing a call to artists working in all media from Houston to San Antonio, from Victoria to Dallas, from the Gulf to the Hill Country, from Beaumont to Fredericksburg, and everywhere in between.
The Cross Creek Ranch Art Festival will be located in Fulshear, west of Houston, off FM 1093 at 6450 Cross Creek Bend Lane.

dog walk, april 17
Special Pals will host a West “Mutt”ster Dog Walk on April 17 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. by the fountain in LaCenterra, 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd. This event will benefit the homeless animals at the shelter in need of medical care.
