On May 7, 1945, Germany officially surrendered to the Allied Forces during the
second world war and May 8, 1945, was proclaimed VE Day. On Aug. 14, 1945,
Japan officially surrendered and Aug. 15, 1945, was proclaimed VJ Day. World
War II was over, and the men and women of the military services returned to
their homes and families.
On June 19, 1947, Floyd E. Breedlove VFW Post 9182 in Katy was chartered, and by
the end of 1947 would have 59 members.
The first elected commander was Jim DiIorio. The members got to work immediately
with community service projects that continue today with veterans of several
more wars.
