Carla Aston 0837_1.jpg
The Butler’s Pantry, designed by Carla Aston, was inspired by its surroundings—the garden district.” A botanical mural covers the wall and ceiling, invoking the feeling of stepping out into a garden, and the black and white tile floor continues the pattern seen in the foyer and hallway.
Eco friendly features: Limestone remnant countertop and previously used items.

The Common Areas, designed by Cecilia Pacheco, are strikingly elaborate while revealing a basic simplicity at the same time. The staircase, foyer, second floor hall and elevator are framed in geometric shapes and clean lines. Diamond-shaped black and white tiles lead from the foyer through the hallway and into the elevator and butler ’s pantry. A hand-painted gouache mural lines the walls of the elevator, and a drop chandelier illuminates the staircase from the second floor.
Eco friendly features: Custom-woven window treatments made from sustainable fibers, VOC-free paint and hardwood floors.

Post says the exterior architectural elevation of the Southern Colonial design is his favorite part of the house. “We stayed true to a classic design with front porches outside and extensive moldings inside. The floral entryway is a divine room, and the outdoor summer kitchen looks over the yard, which is separated into sections. ”
Other features of the traditional Colonial brick house include a large master bath with his and hers closets, five bedrooms, six baths, an elevator and a 4-car garage. The main house is 9,000 square feet, but a separate apartment above the garage brings the living space to 10,000 square feet.
Barbara Schlattman designed the library, a beautiful and functional room off the foyer. “The warm knotty alderwood tones of the cabinetry and the 125-year-old herringbone oak floor give an inviting look to this room. Two nooks are built out with window seats for a quick place to sit and read from the shelves, ” Schlattman said.
The round table in the room during the show provided a large surface, while the desk area functioned as the detailed, computer work space. There is designated space in the room to accommodate three TVs —a must for any man who can’t miss a game or the news. The TVs have a three-fold purpose serving as a monitor for the outdoor camera, a monitor for the computer and as a normal television set.  “Although the library can be a place for work, it is attractive enough to serve as an overflow space for entertaining, ” Schlattman added.
Donna Vining, head designer for the showhouse event, took on several projects in the house, but one of the most striking was her design for the master bath. “One step into the master bath and you are captured by the soft elegance found throughout every detail, ” Vining said. “This is a room you will find yourself wanting to escape to for hours.” The color palette is a soft tan with a faux finish to add a feminine touch. A variety of glass features accent the room, and a custom-designed leaded glass window reflects natural light off the marble floors and shower glass tiles. Whimsical task lighting adds to the flair of the room. Custom vanities, the period slipper tub with telephone faucet and the built-in closet all reflect the style of days gone by. Beyond all the beauty lies a functional space.
