The Upstairs Parlor, designed by Diana Walker, serves as a transition between indoors and out. The
brightly decorated narrow space opens onto the upstairs balcony overlooking the
garden district of The Woodlands.
Eco friendly features: Increasing natural light to
illuminate the space and using antique furnishings, rugs and fabrics with
recycled content and long life spans.
The Utility Room, designed by Patricia Deane, along with Melissa Hardy and Mark Todd Architects,
is the most environmentally-conscious room in the house. Hard-wood, granite and
recycled brick highlight this room designed for laundry, ironing and small
projects. Wide doors make the room easily accessible, and compact fluorescent
bulbs reduce carbon dioxide and consume less energy. Natural reed blinds cover
the airy windows.
Eco friendly features: Energy saving washer and dryer, low VOC paint.
The Library, designed by Barbara Schlattman, can be a cozy reading room or someplace to watch
TV and surf the net. Although the d
écor was masculine and earthy, the library is meant to be enjoyed by everyone in
the home. Women love the ambiance of the room. Kids as well as adults enjoy the
window seats.
“I could visualize one person working at the desk, another at the table and a
third coming in to sit down and talk,
” Schlattman said.
Eco friendly features: Reclaimed wood and local alderwood.
The Guest Suite, designed by Donna Jarnigan, is decorated in cool tones of sea foam green, aqua
blue and chocolate brown. The bedroom has a timeless feel which carries over
into the vanity area and is highlighted by recycled 1861 wall sconces.
Eco friendly features: 90 percent recycled tile in the wet area and surrounding the mirror; stone
flooring; low VOC paint; bamboo towels, bedding and throw; and recycled 1861
wall sconces.
