Taylor HS Choir Student Receives All-State Choir Honor - Senior choir student Mary Kim advanced through the rigorous selection process to receive placement in the
prestigious All-State Women
’s Choir and the opportunity to perform at the Texas Music Educators Convention
in San Antonio. Junior
Natalia Romero was selected as an alternate. The Taylor Choir is under the direction of Kevin Riehle and Kristin Taylor.

Katy Elks Lodge 2628 Sponsors Local Hoop Shoot Contest - The importance of the annual Hoop Shoot comes from the possibility of
advancing all the way to National Hoop Shoot competition and receiving a
scholarship.
The trip begins at numerous local competitions throughout the country just like
the one held at Mayde Creek High School. There are three age categories each
divided into girls and boys divisions: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.
First-place winners advanced to district competition in Pasadena. The next stop
for district winners will be state where those winners will advance to national
competition.
Katy ISD Names Mentors of the Year - Katy ISD’s Partners in Education selected nine volunteers as the 2010 KEYS mentors of the
year. The winners and their nominating campuses are:
Dana Abbot, WoodCreek Junior High; Jim Burns, Mayde Creek High School; Chris Crockett, Bear Creek Elementary; Perry Cummins, Seven Lakes High School; Rebecca Fox, Mayde Creek High school; Chris Hicks, Taylor High School; Christine Jackson, Mayde Creek Elementary; David Klingler, Taylor High School; and Wayne Patterson, Bear Creek Elementary.
There are more than 900 mentors working with children all across the district.
Mentors of the year are selected on their years of service, number of children
mentored and depth of commitment to the children.
Pattison Elementary Celebrates 100th Day of School - To celebrate the 100th day of school, kindergarten students at Pattison
Elementary dressed as if they were 100 years old. Grey hair and canes were
pretty popular with these 100-year-old kindergartners.

Maverick Journalists to Attend Conference in Washington - Five Morton Ranch student journalists have been nominated to attend the 2010
Washington Journalism and Media Conference this summer in Washington, D.C.
Students who will attend the conference are:
juniors Shea Brochstein, Helen Nerio, Tabby Trapp, Monique Moreno and Lexie Nickerson. Only 240 students nationwide are chosen for this honor.
Katy Junior High Donates to Red Cross - Katy Junior High students, staff and parents raised $1,000 for Haiti relief
during a two-day donation period. Students made donations during school lunch
periods, and were also given an opportunity to
“buy” a ticket to a school-wide assembly with representatives from the Houston Astros
by making a small donation to the relief effort. Parents and staff members also
contributed to the fund.
Katy Junior High representatives delivered the donation to the American Red
Cross.
Taylor HS Students Perform with All-State Band - Four students from James E. Taylor High School performed with the Texas Music
Educators Association All-State Band and Orchestra. They are:
Akash Gupta, junior, first-time All-State musician; Connor Aimone, junior, two-time All-State musician; Lindsay Lanford, senior, two-time All-State musician; and Daniel Malacon, senior, three-time All-State musician. These students were part of the
400-member band selected from thousands of music students across the state.
Four Taylor High School students performed with the TMEA All-State Band and
Orchestra.
Stanley Elementary Showcases Student Art - Stan C. Stanley Elementary students showcased their artistic talents in their
first ever Reflections Program by creating original artwork from a variety of
genres using the theme
“Beauty Is….” The categories included visual arts, photography, choreography, film
production, musical composition and literature. Of the 67 submissions to the
PTA Reflections Program by 54 Stanley Elementary students, 13 pieces were
chosen by outside judges to represent SSE at the council level. Those student
artists are
Caleb Connolly, Carter Bordwell, Chris Pino, Catching Valentinis-Dee, Nina Um, Allie Wilson, Ashley Stone, Kellie Escovy, Kelly Lyons, Grace Lyons, Kellie Tuttle and Axel Robertson. Kindergartner Axel’s photograph “Wild Sunflowers” and third grade music composer Kellie Tuttle’s piece “Waterfalls” will represent Stanley Elementary at the state level.

Seven Lakes Academic Decathlon Wins Regional Meet - The Academic Decathlon team from Seven Lakes High School won the Region VII AD
Meet. This year the Spartans unseated the reigning regional champion James E.
Taylor High School by beating them by more than 1,500 points.
The Spartans captured all three gold team medals; in addition to the overall
team gold medal, the team also captured team gold medals in overall Super Quiz
team and the Super Quiz Relay. The team is ranked No. 1 in the state in overall
Super Quiz team and Super Quiz Relay. The team will enter the state meet ranked
as the No. 2 team overall, just behind Dobie High School.
Individually, the Spartans had a strong showing. In the honors division Jonathan Xu took second overall; Sirus Jesudasen, third overall; and Steven Wan, fourth overall.
In the scholastic division, Raul Calzada took first overall; Mike Bourgeois, second overall; and Matt Bernhard, third overall.
In the varsity division Vincent Lam took first overall; Kyle Mock, fourth overall; and Mark Caldwell, seventh overall. The Spartans took home 47 individual medals.

National Letter of Intent Signing Day for Morton Ranch Mavericks - Students from Morton Ranch High School who participated in the National Letter
of Intent Signing Day to continue their football careers are:
Sydney Sayles and Kennedy Jones who signed with Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas; D’Andre Rhodes, University of Mary in Bismarck, N.D.; Wes Hudson, North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.; and Floyd Mattison, Iowa State University.

Webelos Receive Arrow of Light - The Webelo 2 den from Pack 239 was awarded Cub Scouts highest honor, the Arrow
of Light, during the Texas Skies Webelo Woods event at Camp Brosig.

Morton Ranch FBLA Students State Bound - Members of Morton Ranch High School Future Business Leaders of America
attended the Area V District Conference at Elsik High School. Fourteen students
competed in various events including Business Presentation, Business Ethics,
Marketing, Accounting, Impromptu Speaking, Database Design
& Applications, Business Law and Emerging Business Issues.
The following students placed in their competitions and will attend the FBLA
State Leadership Conference: first place in Database Design
& Application – Ricky Piwonka; and first place in Emerging Business Issues – Abdul Aziz, Arsalan Nasir and Phillip Williams.

Katy Naval Sea Cadet Receives Awards - Katy Naval Sea Cadet Tyler Meyer received a good citizenship award medal from the Sons of the American
Revolution. He is also the recipient of the Bill Archer Congressional
Scholarship, which includes a trip to Washington, D.C., where he will serve as
an intern for Congressman John Culberson. Meyer will meet with cabinet and
executive branch officials, members of the house and senate, and other
dignitaries and key players in Washington. Meyer attends Cy Creek High School.
Singing Valentines Hit the Right Note at Cinco Ranch JH - Cinco Ranch Junior High Choir celebrated Valentine’s Day with its annual “Singing Valentine” fundraiser. Students purchased singing valentines, red carnations and Hershey
bars for friends and teachers. The choir raised more than $2,000 for uniforms,
choir materials and annual trip.
