Bonnie Holland Elementary Holds Haiti Fundraiser - Bonnie Holland Elementary Huskies raised $500 in a single day with $1 donations to the Red Cross in a “Huskies Helping Haiti” relief fundraiser held Jan. 26-29.
Pattison Students Raise Money for American Heart Association - Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart was held at Pattison Elementary. Many fourth- and fifth-grade students had the opportunity to participate in this event to raise money for the American Heart Association.  
Lady Tigers Enter District Playoffs - The Katy Junior High girls basketball seventh-grade A team went undefeated during the season, and entered the playoffs going for the district championship.

Student Art Displayed at Medical Center - Mayde Creek High School art student Sarah Vesel won a Silver Key Scholastic Award for her sculpture. Her art piece was one of 15 from nearly 1,300 pieces chosen to be displayed at Texas Children ’s Medical Center.

Cinco Ranch Running Back Named Houston’s High School Football Player of the Year - Cinco Ranch running back K.C. Nlemchi was named the Greater Houston High School Football Player of the Year for the 2009 season by Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation and KPRC Local 2.  
Cinco Ranch High School also received a $2,500 check from Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine & Rehabilitation in honor of K.C. winning the 2009 award.
The Cougars finished a school best 13-2 in 2009, losing in the State semifinal to Austin Westlake. K.C. led the way rushing for 2,388 yards and 33 touchdowns as a junior.

Pattison Hosts Technology Night - Pattison Elementary held an informative Technology Evening for parents. The event was designed to give parents direct insight into many of the various technology components used at Pattison like SMART boards, Web 2.0 tools, Digital Learner, Internet safety and more.

Mayde Creek HS Powerlifting Wins Big - The Mayde Creek Powerlifting team returned to action with a big win at the Southside Classic. The meet is held yearly at Madison High School and includes several of the top teams in Region IV.
Several outstanding individual performances were turned in that led to the team title including:
Masih Zaman, second place; Merbin Valladares, second place; Chris Smith, first place with Southside Classic records on Squat, Bench and Deadlift; Juan Nunez, fourth place; Ronald Winston, first place; Kevin Green, 3rd place; Shamus Johnson, third place; Kevin Orellana, first place with Southside Classic records on Squat and Deadlift; Tony Pullings, first place with Southside Classic record on Squat; Julian Jimenez, third place; and Brett Urbanowski, third place.

Taylor High School Choir at the Metropolitan Museum of Fine Art.
Taylor Choral Union Performs at Carnegie Hall - The Taylor Choral Union, consisting of Taylor High School choir students and members of the Katy and Houston community, traveled to New York in January to perform at Carnegie Hall. Their program, entitled Haydn: Lord Nelson’s Mass was conducted by Kevin Riehle, Taylor’s choir director and fine arts department chairman. This was Riehle’s seventh visit to Carnegie Hall, and third time conducting.
Students also visited Rockefeller Center, attended two plays and participated in a Harry Potter Scavenger Hunt at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Mayde Creek HS Swim Team Winners - Mayde Creek HS girl’s varsity 200 relay team won third place in the varsity district swim meet held at Katy High School.

Mayde Creek Students Artwork Selected as Finalists for UMDF T-shirt  Design - Two of the three finalists selected for the Houston Chapter of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation T-shirt design are Mayde Creek High School painting students Ariela Ventura and Tasia Srock. The winner’s design will grace the 2011 T-shirts.

NCL’s Senior Recognition and Presentation - National Charity League Inc., Star Chapter will honor the Class of 2010 at its annual Senior Recognition & Presentation on March 7.  
Each student will be recognized for her involvement in community service, leadership development and cultural activities. The mother-daughter organization provides opportunities to volunteer in the community together while nurturing leadership skills and cultural awareness.

NCL Katy Chapter Serves Community - The National Charity League Inc. Katy Chapter Class of 2010 donated more than 1,425 hours to philanthropies in their six years. NCL is a mother-daughter service organization that helps serve the community.

NCL Azalea Chapter Hosts Senior Presentation - The Azalea Chapter of National Charity League Inc. honored its graduating seniors at Senior Presentation. The event celebrated the accomplishments of each senior girl and recognized her contributions to the community during her years of service in NCL. The seniors were honored at a dinner dance attended by family and friends at the Omni Hotel. The seniors are students from five area high schools: Cinco Ranch, Morton Ranch, St. Agnes Academy, Seven Lakes and Taylor.

West Memorial JH Teacher Wins Award - Jessica Fontenot from West Memorial Junior High was awarded the Digital Star Teacher Award for the third six weeks by the Katy ISD Technology Department.  
Teachers are nominated by their principal for the award, which honors those educators who regularly integrate technology in their classrooms.  Marcus Forney nominated her for the award.

Kilpatrick Students Recognized for Artwork - Three students at Odessa Kilpatrick Elementary created artwork that won in the Katy ISD Council of PTAs Reflections program “Beauty is… .” Their entries will now go on to compete at the Texas State PTA level of the Reflections program. Winners from Kilpatrick are first-grader Sarah Grindal for her Visual Arts entry “The Human Body,” third-grader Paige Heilman for her Photography entry “Beauty is…Childhood,” and second-grader Brenden Townsend for his Dance Choreography entry “Brenden Eagle.”
