pin oak charity horse show
The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, one of the country’s oldest and most prestigious horse competitions, has officially launched its 65th season. This year ’s show will be held at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy from March 17-28.  
BBVA Wealth Solutions is returning as the lead sponsor of the show. “We are thrilled that BBVA Wealth Solutions has agreed to be our lead sponsor again this year, ” said Pin Oak Charity Horse Show President Lynn Walsh. “Their generous support and that of all our sponsors and show participants will allow us to continue our tradition of raising millions of dollars for our charities, Texas Children ’s Hospital and The Ronald McDonald House of Houston.”
The show will feature a wide array of equestrian talent featuring hunters and jumpers, American Saddlebreds, Andalusians, Welsh ponies, Dressage and the United Mountain Horse breed. The crown jewels of the event take place throughout the two weeks. Saturday evening of Week One features the $30,000 Nordic Lights Farm Grand Prix and Championship Finals.
No tickets are required Tuesdays-Fridays.  Tickets are required for both March 20 and March 27 at 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 for adults; children 12 and under are free. FBSO CHAMBER CONCERT in KATY
Responding to requests from Katy residents, the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra will hold a chamber orchestra concert on Friday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Katy ’s St. Peter’s First United Methodist Church.
The chamber orchestra, consisting of strings and woodwinds, will perform a variety of works including Mozart and Haydn including Mozart ’s Overture to the Marriage of Figaro and Haydn’s Symphony No. 82 in C major, often called the Bear Symphony.
Tickets are $10 and are available online at www.fbso.org, by calling 281-276-9642 or at the door.
Fort Bend Chamber Orchestra members will take their music to Katy on March 6.

casey pope properties
chili cook off

Casey Pope Properties will hold its 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on March 27 from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. at the office, 30511 W. 2nd St. in Fulshear. The event will benefit Child Advocates of Fort Bend.
There will be chili cook-off teams, a mechanical bull, live band, classic cars and raffle. The event is free to the public, and Child Advocates of Fort Bend will collect donations.

barry sea paradox performs
The Barry Sea Paradox performs every Saturday from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Mercury Bar in Cinco Ranch. Mercury Bar is a martini jazz lounge with an emphasis on artisan beer and wines.
One of Texas’ hottest groups, the Barry Sea Paradox has a hit smooth jazz CD that’s received lots of radio airplay. The group features long-time Katy residents Barry and Bobbie Sea (Siegel). They ’ve appeared at many of Texas’ finest clubs playing music they describe as smooth jazz with a rough edge called soul.
The Mercury Bar is located at 22756 Westheimer Parkway, Ste. 190, between Mason Road and Grand Parkway in the Villagio Town Center.

girl scout cookie sales
Girl Scout cookie sales are under way with eight varieties available including: Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Shortbread, Thanks-A-Lot, Caramel deLites, Lemonades and Daisy Go-Rounds. A box of cookies is $3.50.
Cookies will be sold at cookie booths outside of grocery stores and other retail venues until March 27. There is also a toll-free cookie hotline at 1-888-GS-COOKIE to find the nearest Girl Scout cookie booth.
junior high master class dance series, beginning march 3
The Seven Lakes Sapphires Dance Team will host a Junior High Master Class Dance Series for students in grades 6-8. Classes will be held every Wednesday from March 3-April 14 from 3:15 p.m.-4:15 p.m. in the Seven Lakes High School Dance Gym.
Students who attend the classes are invited to perform in the Sapphires Spring Show on April 16. The cost for the dance series is $60.

mayde creek jh 30th anniversary, march 3
Mayde Creek Junior High is celebrating its  30th anniversary with a ceremony on March 3. Plans include creating a new time capsule and the event will also include past principals.
In addition, a carnival will be held in the evening on March 5 with door prizes, etc.

Garden Club, march 4

The Nottingham Country Garden Club will feature Square Foot Gardening for Small Spaces by Marilyn Almon, Fort Bend Master Gardener, propagation specialist on March 4. Meet and greet time begins at 9:30 a.m. and the program will start at 10 a.m., followed by the NCGC meeting at the Municipal Utility Bldg. No. 81 at 805 Hidden Canyon Drive in Katy. Katy High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Terence Gorton, will present the 24th annual Sentimental Journey – Music & Memories on March 6 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Enjoy the smooth sounds of the award winning KHS jazz band, with special guest vocalists, as they play big band favorites, such as Pennsylvania 65000, Moon River and In The Mood. Dinner and dancing will make the evening complete.

opening reception, march 6
Meet multi-talented and self-taught Nigerian artiste Folasayo De-Orgunrinde on March 6 at an original ARTreach “Art With A Voice” exhibition. See Folasayo’s latest works of art and enjoy her award-winning short film, The Hunt, along with a unique spoken word presentation accompanied by musicians Jawad Abdul-Jabbar and Michael Guevara.
The opening wine reception begins at 7 p.m. at The Gallery at Villagio, Villagio Town Center, Ste. 240, 22756 Westheimer Parkway in Katy.

st. patrick’s day party, march 14
The Irish American Heritage Association  will celebrate Irish culture at it’s annual St Patrick’s Day Party on March 14 at 2 p.m. at he Katy Elks Lodge, 1050 Katy Fort Bend Road.
In addition to music and dancing, the IAHA and the American Legion will sponsor  an Irish Soda Bread Baking contest. Entrants will pay a $1 entry fee and provide the judges with two loaves.
