Katy Naval Sea Cadets march in parade. Sea Cadets from the Katy Division of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps celebrated the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  by marching in the 3rd Annual MLK Youth parade in downtown Houston.  
The Sea Cadets was one of many student military groups that participated in the parade, along with floats, marching bands and drill teams.
“This was the first time we’ve marched in this parade,” said Lt. j.g. Cliff Borgstedt, commanding officer of the division. “The crowds were enthusiastic and gave a warm welcome to our cadets.”
Mayor Don Elder congratulates Morton Ranch  students for their hard work and success of the Morton Ranch FFA.

Mayor Don Elder Speaks to FFA Booster CLub. Katy Mayor Don Elder spoke to the FFA Booster Club and Maverick FFA members about the upcoming Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show. He congratulated Morton Ranch students for their hard work and the success of the Morton Ranch FFA this year and in the past. He discussed with the students and parents strategies for encouraging buyers and how to become part of a buyers group. He also shared his involvement with the buyers group Katy Aggies  and discussed how to become a participant.

christ church pca of katy celebrates milestone. Christ Church PCA of Katy, a 10-year-old congregation, celebrated the first milestone in the construction of its permanent facility, located at 3025 Katy Gaston.  
Durotech, the builder of the new church, served the 170-member congregation a barbecue lunch at the U.S. flag raising ceremony, which signified the establishment of their church body in the Katy community. The congregation is excited to become more established in the Katy community and serve their spiritual needs.

An honor guard made up of members of both VFW Post 9182 and American Legion Post 164 members delivered the traditional 21-gun salute as part of the Pearl Harbor program.

Prairie Rose SErvice Unit helps living word lutheran church’s mission outreach. Prairie Rose Service Unit Girl Scouts and their families donated toiletries to Living Word Lutheran Church.  
Cadette Troop 401 helped assemble the donated items and were able to create 94 hygiene bags that will be distributed by Living Word through their ongoing mission outreach. The bags contained personal hygiene items and a card printed with the Lord ’s prayer. Barb Van Akkeren of Living Word accepted the items from troop 401's representatives.

First-place bowling team winners NBD Graphics. Team members include: (l-r) Velond Bernett, NBD Graphics; Rachel Dunham, president of Katy Exchange Club; Delisel Doherty, NBD Graphics; Rob Caziel, NBD Graphics; Nicholoas Doherty, NBD Graphics; and Tony Ackerman, president of Memorial Exchange Club.

Exchange Clubs Have Successful Bowl-A-Rama Fundraiser. The Memorial and Katy Exchange clubs’ 3rd Annual Bowl-A-Rama fundraiser was a great success. All 36 bowling lanes were used. The NBD Graphics team won first place with team bowlers. NBD Graphics ’ second team took third- place honors. Second-place bowling team winners were professional singers Bill and Jimmy Nash of Nash 3. The two clubs donate to other nonprofit charites in the community to help prevent child abuse and Exchange Club community service projects.
