Memorial Parkway JH Eagles Go Undefeated - The Memorial Parkway Junior High eighth-grade A Men’s Basketball team coached by Dave Clare went undefeated to take first-place honors in the West Houston Middle School Basketball Tournament. The team beat teams from around KISD as well as Fort Bend to take the win. The Eagles are first in the division and undefeated. They will play Beck for the district title.

Morton Ranch HS Students Attend Career and Education Day - Students and faculty from Morton Ranch High School participated in the 23rd Annual Career and Education Day at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Students were able to speak with professionals about exciting careers for their future, receive guidance from counselors and educators, and learn about courses of study, college admissions, scholarships and financial aid at colleges and universities in and out of state.

WMJH and OKE Use Distance Learning Program - Ms. Wright’s sixth-grade class at West Memorial Junior High and Miss Tieman’s and Mrs. Young’s kindergarten classes at Kilpatrick Elementary had the unique opportunity to utilize distance learning technology to communicate with each other.
Ms. Wright’s class read a class-made picture book using research and including each letter of the alphabet. The students took turns reading to the little kids at OKE, in real time. After reading the book, the kindergartners performed a couple of songs for the WMJH students. Both classes could see and talk to each other, so students could ask questions and give answers, as if they were face-to-face. All of the students involved and the teachers are thrilled that their children had a lesson in technology that they will always remember.

Morton Ranch HS Seniors Sign Letters of Intent - Morton Ranch High School had four students who signed letters of intent to play college football next year. Joe Mitchell signed with Oklahoma State University; Michael Venson signed with Texas Christian University; Raashad Patterson signed with University of the Incarnate Word and Nashon Davis signed with Blinn Junior College.

Cub Scout Pack 281 Passes Uniform Inspection with Flying Scout Colors - Retired Lt. Col. Benjamin T. Po Jr., D.D.S. ,inspected the Class A dress uniforms of the boys in Pack 281 during January ’s pack meeting, and awarded all the boys with great praise for a job well done.
After displaying their best dress and posture during uniform inspection and awards, all the boys participated a relay race made up of drinking straws and paper squares. Pack 281 is chartered and sponsored by Dr. Po and Pediatric Dentist of Katy.

Houston Astros Visit Bonnie Holland Elementary - Bonnie Holland Elementary students caught Astros fever when the Astros 09 Caravan stopped at Bonnie Holland Elementary. Members of the Houston Astros presented their Fielder ’s Choice School Program to the students.
The program, facilitated by long-time Astros broadcaster Bill Brown, encourages scholastic achievement during the second semester of school, highlights the importance of making good choices and supports participation in extracurricular activities. The motivational and fun-filled program allowed time for baseball trivia and questions from the children and faculty. The children were thrilled by the visit and were surprised by a special guest appearance by Houston Astros mascot Junction Jack.

Beck Junior High Girls Basketball Team Wins Tournament - The KISD Beck Junior High seventh-grade Girls A team won the Fort Bend ISD Middle School Girls 7A Basketball Tournament.

Girl Scouts Receive Awards - The Prairie Rose Service Unit, Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council honored Cadette and Junior Girl Scouts for their achievement of the highest awards possible for their program levels. Each award has a number of requirements which include badgework, skill building, leadership and community service. Awards culminate in a service project chosen, planned and executed by the girls;  the Bronze Award requires 15 hours of planning and work, while the Silver Award requires 40 hours.

Pattison Hoops for Heart Winners - Pattison Elementary fifth-graders held their annual Hoops for Heart contest to end the week of raising money for the American Heart Association. The No Names beat the Kung Fu Warriors by one point after two overtimes. Pattison collected $9,500 for the American Heart Association between Hoops for Heart and Jump Rope for Heart.

Taylor HS Boys Varsity Golf Team Takes Top Honors - The Taylor High School boys’ varsity golf team won first place in the Katy Tiger Winter Classic held at The Club at Falcon Point. Senior Kevin Vanden Heuvel placed third in individual competition.

Cinco Ranch JH Victorian Tea - Seventh-grade students at Cinco Ranch Junior High enjoyed a Victorian tea to go along with their study of the novels, A Christmas Carol and True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle. Homemade and store-bought food was brought in to allow students the opportunity to taste different types of Victorian-era food.
