Cinco ranch mixed doubles team makes it to quarter finals. The 2009 USTA 7.0 Mixed Doubles Texas Sectionals tournament kicked off in Corpus Christi with teams representing cities across the state. The Cinco Ranch team qualified as the second place Houston team and stormed through the tournament defeating a team from the Valley and the Fort Worth team.  
In the state quarterfinals, Cinco split sets in two matches before falling in defeat to the ultimate runner-up Dallas team. Cinco ’s only losses this season were to the top two ranked teams in Texas, leaving them as one of the elite teams in the state.

Mothers’ Share Group hosts New Member Brunch. Katy author Rick Weber was a guest speaker at the Mothers’ Share Group New Member Brunch  at St. Peter’s United Methodist Church. Weber read an excerpt from his book, Pink Lips and Fingertips, and was also on hand to discuss it and autograph copies.

GREATER KATY EXCHANGE CLUB
PRESENTS FLAG TO CONSTABLE ROB COOK. Newell Cheatheam, secretary of The Greater Katy Exchange Club, presented Fort Bend County Pct. 3 Constable Rob Cook with an American flag that has flown over Washington D.C., a certificate and award presentation picture as 2009 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast District Exchange Club.
The American flags were not in when the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast District Exchange Clubs honored Constable Rob Cook as one of the 2009 Law Enforcement Officers of the Year in February 2009 at the organization ’s 44th Annual Crime Prevention Dinner. Numerous law enforcement agency leaders and community leaders recommended Constable Cook to be honored for this outstanding award.
Cook is a 28-year law enforcement veteran and has served as Fort Bend County Pct. 3 Constable since 1988. Cook has a big heart for community service and has been involved in community activities.
Constable Cook and his staff have provided free child identification finger printing at the Greater Katy Exchange Booth at the Katy Rice Harvest Festival.

dar celebrates constitution week. To celebrate Constitution Week, the Star of Destiny Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution asked Katy Mayor Don Elder to sign a proclamation.

moms clubs holds open house. The MOMS Club of Katy-SE, and the MOMS Club of Katy-SW, held its first joint Open House to promote the “birth” of its newest chapter in the Katy area.  
Moms Offering Moms Support is a support group for stay-at-home moms. The calendar includes weekly (age-appropriate) playgroups, park days, group outings, book club, mom and tot lunch, family events, community service projects, mom ’s night out and more.
Sgt. Mike Waller, Fort Bend Sheriff’s Department, receives a flag from Cmdr. Lumpkin. Waller represents the first responders who died in the Sept. 11 attack.
Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy Celebrates National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy brought together former and current patients, as well as staff members for a special celebration in recognition of National Rehabilitation Awareness Week. The highlight of the event featured testimonials from former patients who spoke of their recovery and the journey back to independence, including Houston Police Officer Quentin Wilson.  
After being injured on duty and spending weeks in the ICU at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, Officer Wilson was admitted to Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy. Today, he is back on his feet and, with the help of Outpatient Therapy, building his strength in the hopes of returning to duty as a police officer.  
George Luker, who suffered a stroke 10 months ago and spent time as an inpatient at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital, today is a familiar face in Outpatient Therapy at Memorial Hermann Rehabilitation Hospital-Katy. He was in attendance and his wife, Cindy, sent a letter to be read on her behalf.
In it she wrote, “On behalf of my husband, George, and our entire family, I’d like to offer heartfelt thanks to the wonderful therapists, aides, assistants, nurses and medical staff who provide such compassionate care, not only to their patients, but to the families who experience the anguish along with their loved ones. ”

DAR Awards Flag certificates. The Star of Destiny Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution presented 35 Flag Certificates to various businesses in the Katy area.  
Among those who received a certificate was Gary Sablatura, branch manager of the Moody National Bank on Cinco Ranch Boulevard in Katy.  
Texas Elks Celebrate “Homecoming” through Helping Others. Over 40 Katy Elks from Lodge 2628 joined with Elks from throughout the state to participate in activities at the Texas Elks Children ’s Services facility during its annual homecoming celebration.

The current Texas Elks State Association  president and first lady are Bob and Sandi Boyett of the Katy Lodge. Each year, the TESA first lady works on a special project for the special needs children of Texas. Sandi ’s first project is to raise funds to underwrite a seventh week of summer camp for the kids. A recent fundraising endeavor raised $7,000.
Katy Lodge 2628 was the winner in the annual cookoff for brisket. The team was comprised of chairman Daniel Garza, Dan Tass, John Atwood, Sally DiPalma and Walter Marx.  
The certificates were award by Flag Committee chair Bonnie Peplaski for proper use, correct display and patriotic presentation of the American flag.
