Debra Barker and the late Dan Barker of Fulshear and Jamie and Francis Richards of Katy are pleased to announce the engagement of their children, Miss Amy Katherine Barker to Mr. Austin Brandt Richards.
 The bride-elect and groom-elect are both graduates of Taylor High School in Katy and Texas A &M University in College Station. Amy is the granddaughter of Catherine Mullinex of Calvert, Texas, and Leonard and the late LaVerne Penkert of Rosenberg, Texas. Austin is the grandson of Bob and Marge Richards of Sattler, Texas, and Kent and Joyce Pogue of Kenedy, Texas.
A July Wedding is planned at Briscoe Manor in Richmond, Texas.
Adult contestants at the Cotton Patch Expo include Marilyn Bullen, Mary Jane Wilson, Marcia Linton, model Caitlin Linton and Georgia Way.
Third Annual Fashions from the Cotton Patch Expo. Everyone was a winner at the third annual Fashions from the Cotton Patch Expo held at the Bud O ’Shieles Community Center in Rosenberg. The event was hosted by Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Fort Bend County and American Sewing Guild-Houston Chapter. Grand prize winners included: Amy Bowman from Alvin (Youth Division) who received a Janome Gem Platinum III sewing machine donated by Janome Sewing Machines.
Marilyn Bullen from Houston(Adult Division) received electric scissors donated by Eastex Sewing Center, Houston. Margaret Bock from Sugar Land (Professional Division) received a sewing case donated by Susie Seed, ASG-Houston Chapter president.
Judges’ Choice winners all received an American Sewing Guild tote bag with patterns. The winners are: Youth - Dakota Bramble from Van Fleck; Adult - Mary Jane Wilson from Kingwood; and Professional - Nasreen Saeedi from Houston.
Viewer’s Choice winners received notions and sewing supplies. They are: Youth - Krystal Berry from Dickinson; Adult - Marcia Linton from Katy; and Professional - Margaret Bock of Sugar Land.

Katy Elks Auxiliary Hosts Hoe Down. The Katy Elks Lodge 2628 Auxiliary hosted a Hoe Down with great food and music. The events was a fundraiser to help community youth and families.
In addition to donating to the Elks youth activities, the auxiliary provides food baskets for area families at both Thanksgiving and Christmas. The group also participates in several activities for area veterans with Elks members.

The Sounds of Big Band in Katy. The Katy community enjoyed the sounds of big band music performed by the  USAF Dimensions in Blue jazz ensemble at a free concert sponsored by the Cinco Ranch Conservatory of Music at the Morton Ranch Performing Arts Center.  
ARTreach announces the 2009 Heroes Among Us. Since 2004, ARTreach has recognized people in the community annually as “heroes among us” for their support and involvement in arts education and outreach. ARTreach’s 2009 Heroes Among Us are:

The performance was strongly supported by Katy VFW Post 9182, and it was estimated that more than 400 people attended the event, including numerous veterans from the community.
VFW Post Junior Vice Commander Dave Brasell, Trustee George Berg, Chief of Staff Stephen Brady and Benevolence Chairman Mike Warren collected tickets and ushered for the concert.  
George Berg, a WWII Army veteran and the oldest member of Post 9182, was invited to play a tune on his miniature harmonica for both the audience and the USAF Band.

The heroes were invited to attend Art Making Workshops to create chairs that will be auctioned to raise money for ARTreach programs. The public is invited to the official unveiling of the heroic works of art at the Chair-ish the Arts Reception at Villagio Town Center on Oct. 22.
Pageant. Women from all over the United States came to compete in three divisions (Miss, Ms., and Mrs.) in a week of preliminary competition, optional competitions and a host of parties held in their honor.  
This year’s delegates were also filmed throughout the week by a production crew gathering footage on behalf of the National Geographic channel.
DeWaegeneer works as the sales director and a regular performer with ComedySportz.  She is an active member of the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau, Houston West Chamber of Commerce and Christian Networking Group.
Her platform is “Live Life with P.O.P.“ (Power Of the Positive), and she is involved in supporting various nonprofit organizations including DePelchin Children ’s Center, Texas Repertory Theatre and The Rose.
