Katy Naval Sea Cadets Complete Training - Eighteen members of the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets, Katy Division, completed
Cinco Ranch HS Varsity Cheerleaders Win Awards at Camp - The Cinco Ranch High School varsity cheerleaders attended UCA cheer camp at
Texas A
&M University. The girls were awarded with the Camp Champion award for their
Extreme Routine, which is one of the highest wards given at the camp.
The extreme routine is a combination of dance, choreographed by the UCA staff,
and tumbling, stunts and jumps, choreographed by the squad.
The CRHS mascots were awarded with a Superior trophy. Jennifer Owen, Trina Baker and Scarlett Shillings were also chosen as All American by the UCA cheer staff.

West Memorial Junior High Holds Garage and Craft Sale - West Memorial Junior High held its first Garage and Craft Sale to raise money
for the PTA.
Donations of everything from clothing to household decorations to books were
given by members of the community and faculty. Craft
National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Visits Katy ISD - The Taylor High School drumline made a trip to Nottingham Country Elementary
to welcome and entertain the National Ambassador for Young People
’s Literature Jon Scieszka, as well as the students at Nottingham Elementary.
The position of National Ambassador is named by the Librarian of Congress and
was created to promote the importance of young people
’s literature as it relates to lifelong literacy, education and the development
of the lives of young people.

several challenging military training courses around the country. Eleven Sea
Cadets attended a two-week recruit training (boot camp) at Naval Air Station
Corpus Christi. Recruit training is a nine-day or 14-day version of the U.S.
Navy
’s boot camp. At recruit training, Sea Cadets learn Navy rules and regulations,
how to march in formation, shoot AR-15 rifles, stand a night watch, aquatic
survival skills, memorize the Navy Creed and many other activities.
Katy High School senior Sean Swoboda attended master at arms training at Naval Air Station Ingleside, just north of
Corpus Christi. Cadets learned how to clear a room, how drugs are classified,
how to handcuff a suspect and other law enforcement-related skills.
Home-schooled student Bryce Sumrall attended seamanship training at Recruit Training Center Great Lakes, just
outside of Chicago. A highlight of this training was physical training with
Navy Seals, and learning how to moor a ship and
drop anchor.
Cinco Ranch High School junior Colin Lewis attended airman training at Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth. He worked on the
transit line where F15
’s, F-16’s and F18’s were taking off and landing, went aboard a B52 and toured Lockheed Martin’s assembly line which is currently assembling the F35 Lightning II.
Katy High School sophomore Dominick Wright, Sealy High School sophomore Drew Shapiro, Taylor High School sophomore Jonathan Mirea and freshman Alex Jennings attended training at a United States Coast Guard Station in Galveston. They
helped the Coast Guard get ready for an upcoming tour that was open to the
public, served as escorts to the public at the tour, worked on the cutter
Harry Claiborne, and toured Coast Guard helicopters and small boats.

Bren Carley from Boys Scout Troop 424 in Katy is an Eagle Scout.
Stuart Bren Carley Earns Eagle Scout Rank - Bren Carley from Boy Scout Troop 424 earned his Eagle
rank. He has been in Boy Scouts for the last 11 years, and during that time has
held many positions including patrol leader, troop guide and he even spent two
weeks on a survival trek with his troop at Philmont Scout Ranch.
Texas Coastal Cattle Women Select Scholarship Winners - Caitlin Rose Connell of Katy was the recipient of a $2,000 scholarship from the Texas Coastal Cattle
Women. Caitlin is a student at Texas A
&M University who is majoring in Rangeland Ecology and Management. Her goal is to
become an agriculture teacher in Mongolia.
Each year, TCCW presents two scholarships to college students who graduated from
a Texas high school in the following counties: Harris, Fort Bend, Austin,
Waller, Brazoria, Wharton, Matagorda, Liberty and Chambers. Other
qualifications include students who are attending college, have completed 30
semester hours, have financial need, and a GPA of 2.5 or better and are
majoring in agriculture or family and consumer science.
Bonnie Holland Elementary Receives Award - Bonnie Holland Elementary received the No Place For Hate award from the
Anti-Defamation League at a small ceremony during announcements.
Last year, students exhibited that their school was no place for hate by
celebrating diversity with many activities such as Character Counts, where
students received ribbons when they portrayed certain traits like
responsibility, kindness and respect.
National Fusion U18 boys soccer team
National Fusion Wins Team Warm Up Cup Tournament - The National Fusion U18 boys soccer team won the Team Warm Up Cup tournament.
The tournament is a warm up before the season starts for club soccer. The
tournament record was three wins and one tie. The championship game went into
over time with National Fusion winning in PK
’s.
Team members are Jens Bergersen, Chris Bourgeois, Christopher Brelsford, Tyler Buttle, Eric Calderon, Will Childers, Nick Dombalis, Christo Driscoll, Alex Ewald, Barnaby Fryer, Ryan Learned, Daniel Medina, Fernando Montelango, Roberto Montelango, Matthew Paquette, Javier Perez and Jackson Tolleson. The team trainer is Johnathan and the team manager is Loretta Brelsford.

Scouts Learn Valuable Info at Bass Pro Shop - Bass Pro Shop held informational clinics and hands-on education for all
children. The staff
presented the topic, gave information on what they were teaching you about and
then the children would go on a scavenger hunt around the store to answer a few
questions.

vendors purchased booth spaces and sold a variety of goodies.
Marilyn Zahri, a WMJH faculty member, sold snow cones and donated all profits to the school. The sale netted approximately $2,000.
After completing the questions, they would take the forms to the customer
service desk and
earned pins for each session completed. The store also had games and crafts
related to each session. Some of the topic were fishing, archery and bird
watching as well as other interactive demonstrations such as kayaking.
The information was used to earn Scout patches and expanded the children’s knowledge to use in further Scouting adventures.
