katy elks lodge co-hosts birthday celebration. Katy Elks Lodge No. 2628 started a new veterans program in conjunction with the Oaks at Brookshire Nursing Home. The Oaks holds a birthday celebration for residents each month, and now the Lodge Americanism Committee is co-hosting the celebration quarterly. They provide cake and visit with the residents, many of them being veterans.

grace school staff celebrates birthday. The staff at Grace School celebrated Carol Greco’s 70th birthday at Hasta La Pasta. A fun time was had by all. Carol is also on staff at Grace School.

Firethorne Kindles Spirit of Community at Golf Classic. Firethorne kindled the spirit of community as a sponsor of the Consolidated Communications – The Arc of Katy 2009 Golf Classic at Pine Forest Country Club.
The Arc of Katy works to create opportunities for children and adults with cognitive, intellectual and developmental disabilities, enabling each person to be a participating and respected member of the community and to grow in mind, body and spirit.

KATY ELKS ATTEND NATIONAL CONVENTION. The Elks Grand Lodge held its 145th convention in Portland, Ore. Katy Elks Lodge 2628 was well represented by Walter Marx, current ER of the Katy Lodge; Bob Boyett, past Katy ER, past district deputy GER and current Texas Elks State Association president; and Kenneth Boyd, past ER and recently installed district deputy grand exalted ruler.
The convention provides attendees with opportunities to attend an exhibit show as well as seminars and workshops to learn more about the Order ’s programs and activities, and with occasions to interact socially and meet fellow Elks to discuss common objectives, share information and strengthen ties. A highlight of the convention was the Parade of Flags.  
Marx was Katy’s official representative to the convention, and Boyett represented not only Katy but the entire state of Texas. He was an official representative of the Grand Exaulted Ruler at a number of events and gatherings. Boyd, past ER of the Katy Lodge, was installed as District Deputy GER.
This year, Katy received three awards, all in the area of youth involvement: first in the nation for Youth Week Brochure, second in the nation for Youth Activities Brochure and Best Overall Youth Program in Texas.

katy vfw performs flag ceremony. The Katy VFW Honor Guard performed a flag raising ceremony at the grand opening for the Katy West I-10 Fire Station No. 4.
