Katy Student Participates in Miss South Texas Pageant - Sasha Romans participated in the National American Miss South Texas Pageant in June in Houston. More than 100 girls registered to participate. Although Sasha didn ’t win the princess title, she is the 2009 National American Miss South Texas Princess Casual Wear Model.
Sasha won a sash, crown, $250, portable DVD player, trophies, ribbons and a plaque. She will be going to California to compete for the national Casual Wear Model title in November.
The National American Miss pageants are dedicated to celebrating America’s greatness and encouraging its future leaders.

New School Opens in Katy ISD - Standley Elementary, Katy ISD’s newest school, opened its doors in August. The school is located on Cinco Terrace Drive at Fry Road.
Stanley Elementary’s newly elected 2009-10 PTA Executive Board members are: Courtney Doyle, president; Cathleen Connolly, VP membership; Liz Shimbashi, VP VIPS; Pamela Valentinis-Dee, VP programs; Becky Minear, VP fundraising; Andrea Morrisard, treasurer; Jennifer Wright, secretary; Kelley Carr, historian; and Tiffany Vogt, parliamentarian. Kerri Finnesand is the principal.

Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms Gather for Howdy Social - The Katy/West Houston Aggie Moms gathered for the annual Texas A&M Howdy Social at Holy Covenant United Methodist Church.  
Incoming Texas A&M students for the College Station and Galveston campuses and their families were welcomed, recent graduates were honored and scholarship winners were announced.
This year’s $1,000 scholarships were awarded to Claire Brown, Matthew Coker and Kristina Pontious. Current Commander of the Corps of Cadets, Katy’s own Brent Lanier, and two of the current Aggie yell leaders Reagan Thompson and another Katy local, Casey Schaefer, were also on hand for the event.
Swordfish Swim Team Ends Season - The Cimarron Swordfish Swim Team’s season ended with each swimmer doing his/her best to improve times and have fun.

School’s Namesake Presents Artwork - School administrators, teachers and parent volunteers worked together this summer to prepare for the much-anticipated August opening of Stanley Elementary, the newest school in Katy I.S.D. Stanley Elementary is located on Cinco Terrace Drive at Fry Road, in Cinco Ranch Southwest. Stan Stanley, the namesake of the school, and his wife presented new principal Kerri Finnesand a painting to commemorate the school ’s mascot.

Local Dancer Competes at Masquerade National - Shelby Nunn, company member at Becky’s Academy of Dance, recently competed at Masquerade National Dance Competition in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. She won National Junior Dancer of the Year as well as the Junior Division Championship for her solo “Is You Is.” Shelby is a seventh-grader at Beck Junior High School.

Taylor High School Names Drum Majors - James E. Taylor High School Marching Band announced the Drum Majors for 2009-10. The students who were chosen for this distinctive honor are Kelsey Singer, assistant drum major; Daniel Malacon, head drum major; and Hoang Nguyen, assistant drum major.
Cinco Ranch Band Gains National Recognition - The Cinco Ranch High School Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at the National Wind Band Festival in Indianapolis in March 2010. Cinco Ranch is one of only 15 high school concert bands across America to receive the distinction of performing at this prestigious and highly acclaimed event.
The selection for this renowned music festival is made through an audition CD submitted by each band across the country. Cinco Ranch was accepted from a recording of its 2009 UIL contest program. The Concert UIL program demonstrated the superior quality of playing and exceptional musicianship that also earned the band a sweepstakes of top scores from the contest judges.

Team Swagger Claims Runner-up Title  - The Team Swagger Basketball Club 11U claimed the National Championship Runner-up title at Cocoa Beach, Fla. The team boasts an impressive 6-1 winning record as they competed against the top 40 teams in the nation allowing an automatic bid to the 2010 Nationals.
Team members are: Keiron Barker, Chris Burgess, Devon Collins, Noah Davis, Trendavion Dickerson, McKinley Green, Tydarius Harris, Courtney Lark, Troy Marasigan, Trey Matthews, Elvin Sneed and Azarias Tocaben. Tony Marasigan is the coach.
