Stampede Wins Super Series World Series - The Katy Stampede, a 10U select baseball team, won the Super Series World Series, Minors Division in Colorado Springs. The Stampede won six games and lost only two to take home the championship trophy and banner.  
Zack Gagne, Nick Guzak, Rand’n Loewe and Jeffrey Neuendorff were named to the all-tournament team. Sebi Perez took home the Home Run Derby championship trophy. The Stampede have been together for two years and are a part of Katy Pony Baseball.

Local Swimmers Medal at TAAF State Swim Meet - Several swimmers from Katy, who swim for the WHALe (West Houston Aquatic League)  summer swim league, brought medals back from the State Games of Texas. These swimmers had to qualify at a regional swim meet at Cinco Ranch High School. Among the winners were two golds and two state records for the 18-up free and medley relays. Local swimmers were Jason and Brad Roberson, Braden Keith, Jimmy Rodriguez, Paul Welge and Ryan Rucker. Also in the free relay, the 7-8 girls brought home a bronze. The relay team was Gabriela Walters, Karlye Little, Rebecca Reitsma and Ali Russell. Kaitlyn Little placed third in her individual butterfly. Ali Russell took home two gold medals for individual Freestyle and Butterfly. These swimmers also received an invitation to Nationals, which will be held in San Diego in 2011.

Katy TKD Academy Wins Big at World Championships - Nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, known for its classic southern charm and hospitality is the city of Birmingham, Ala. For nearly a week in mid July, Birmingham exercised these qualities as it hosted the annual ITA World Tiger Training and Championships in which the Katy TaeKwonDo & Jiu-Jitsu Academy participated.
Sprinkled among the rank competition and high rank testing were seminars ranging from spinning kicks to HanMuDo skills training. Under the Championships theme of Play Hard! Work Hard! Win Big!, new this year was the Synchronized Team Xtreme competition in which Katy Academy staff instructors Brittany Lee and Anthony Thompson earned the silver medal for their choreographed high energy TaeKwonDo routine. The Katy TaeKwonDo Academy was well represented by students and instructors competing in Birmingham.

Girl Scouts Visit Downtown Aquarium - Girl Scouts in Troop #17276 from Kilpatrick Elementary used a portion of their cookie sale proceeds to attend the Downtown Aquarium Overnight Adventure. They learned about conservation, animal habitats,  participated in an aquarium scavenger hunt and spent the night by the white tiger exhibit.

Star of Destiny Chapter Participates in Parade - Members of the Star of Destiny Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, and Stars and Stripes Society, National Society Children of the American Revolution, participated in the Cinco Ranch Bike Parade on July 4. The group went all out on decorations and was rewarded with first place in the category of Best Group.
Seven Lakes HS Students Attend All-State Choir Camp - Josh Rucky, Michael Schwin and Jeremy King, ninth-graders at Seven Lakes High School, attended the All-State Choir Camp at University of Texas in Arlington. The camp concluded with a concert for family and friends. The students are taking choir this fall.

Taylor Graduate Receives Singer Scholarship - Taylor High School Band member and 2009 graduate Katherine Silliman has been honored with the Singer Scholarship Award from the University of Miami. This prestigious award is given to only 30 students nation wide, and provides a full tuition scholarship to students who distinguished themselves by their extraordinary academic ability as well as their dedication to expanding their knowledge outside the classroom.
While attending Taylor High School, Katherine played the tuba in the JET band’s wind ensemble and marching band. She was also awarded both Region and Area Band recognitions. Katherine graduated with honors from Taylor and plans to major in Music and Marine Biology at the University of Miami.

A special recognition goes to Brittany Lee and Cindy Furrer for earning Senior Fourth Degree high rank and to Anthony Thompson for earning his Fourth Degree high rank test.
