barry sea paradox performs, every saturday
The Barry Sea Paradox will perform every Saturday from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Mercury Bar in Cinco Ranch. Mercury Bar is a martini jazz lounge with an emphasis on artisan beer and wines.
One of Texas’ hottest groups, the Barry Sea Paradox has a hit smooth jazz CD that’s received lots of radio airplay. The group features long-time Katy residents Barry and Bobbie Sea (Siegel). They ’ve appeared at many of Texas’ finest clubs playing music they describe as smooth jazz with a rough edge called soul.
The Mercury Bar is located at 22756 Westheimer Parkway, Ste. 190, between Mason Road and Grand Parkway in the Villagio Town Center.

artreach needs additional sponsors for Within my Reach! program
ARTreach is seeking sponsors for ongoing programs serving children and adults with special needs. Within My Reach! is an art and enterprise program that provides an opportunity for participants to create their own line of pottery, ceramics, silk screened T-shirts and hand-painted furniture. The curriculum was developed to support cognitive abilities, fine and gross-motor skills, and language development, as well as introduce basic business practices associated with wholesale and retail marketing.
Within My Reach! promotes life skills through creative art and business practices. The students ’ completed art work is exhibited at the ARTreach Gallery, where the public is given an opportunity to purchase items displayed.
Within My Reach! is available to individuals and support groups in the greater Houston, Katy and Fort Bend county areas. ARTreach programs are made possible through grants and donations from businesses and individuals who recognize the impact the arts can have on a person ’s health and well being. Everyone deserves an opportunity to participate in the arts and experience success.
Within My Reach! is a program that can be scheduled as a camp, a series of field trips to the ARTreach Studio in Katy or delivered on-site to intermediate care facilities, home and community-based organizations. ARTreach is seeking annual sponsorships of $500-$1,000 to support up to 1,200 needy individuals through group workshops and private lessons held weekly at the ARTreach Studio and directly via partnering agencies and support groups.

bayou city art festival
Houston’s nationally-ranked Bayou City Art Festival Downtown is set for Oct. 10-11. The juried fine art festival, framed by Houston ’s world-class skyline, is a one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery with its highly acclaimed mix of visual, performing, culinary and interactive arts. This year, 850 national and international artists vied for 300 juried positions, a nearly 20 percent increase over 2008.
With the open air format, art lovers can interact with artists while enjoying downtown ’s pedestrian promenades and booth lined streets during the two-day festival.
An arts and entertainment destination for the entire family, Bayou City Art Festival Downtown features the popular Capital One Bank Creative Zone for children to experience the fun of making art projects they can take home. Other offerings include the Houston Arts Alliance performance stage with continuous multi-cultural musical and dance shows and close-up art demonstrations, such as origami, pottery and guitar making.   A bevy of restaurants and wine cafes will offer American and international fare to satisfy taste buds of all ages. New this fall will be the “Epicurean Adventure,” boasting wine tastings and cooking demonstrations by professional chefs.

4th annual katy wine fest
The 4th Annual Katy Wine Fest is being hosted by the Rotary Club of Katy Sunrise on Oct. 15 from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. at Agave Road, 1010 FM 1463 in Katy.
Katy’s own Kevin Black will provide live entertainment. There will be a silent and a live auction,Texas Wineries will be well-represented by Becker, Messina Hof and Llano Estacado. This year ’s choice in the feature of Wines around the World is Chile. Antonia’s Italian Restaurant and Fish City Grill will be serving up culinary offerings to complement the wines.
Tickets are $50 per person in advance and $60 at the door. Admission includes all wine tastings, hors d ’oeuvres and a souvenir wine glass. For more information, go to www.katysunriserotary.com. Upcoming events at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch during the month of September include: TGIFall Concert Series, Sept. 3, Sept. 10, Sept. 17 and Sept. 24 from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Check the Web site for lineup information.
Katy/West Houston Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk on Sept. 12. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk starts at 8 a.m. This 5K walk will be held rain or shine and is dog and wheelchair/stroller friendly. Registration is free, but participants are encouraged to raise $100 to further programs offered by the local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. Register on-site or online at www.alztex.org.
Mondays with Mommy on Sept. 14 will feature “Good Habits for Healthy Living” presented by Memorial Hermann Hospital Katy from10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Join parents and playgroups during this free monthly series of events and activities designed for preschoolers. Guests are asked (but not required) to bring band-aids and hand sanitizer for donation to the Breath of Life Children ’s clinic.
Step into Scouting with the Boy Scouts of America and Girl Scouts of the San Jacinto Area Council will be held on Sept. 19 from  4 p.m.-8 p.m. This membership drive will celebrate the fun and friendship that goes along with scouting. Booths and demonstrations will highlight the events that take place during the scouting year. A food drive to benefit Katy Christian Ministries will be collected during the event at the on-site Katy Christian Ministries food pantry collection point.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation’s 8th Annual World’s Largest Ice Cream Social will be held on Sept. 24 at Cold Stone Creamery from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation and receive a 3-ounce sample of Jack ’s Creation.
LaCenterra Sunset Cruise and concert performance is set for Sept. 26 from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Classic car owners and enthusiasts are invited to display their “rides” or talk shop at this monthly gathering. The LaCenterra Sunset Cruise will be held weather permitting.

Girl Scout Registration Rally, sept. 3
A Girl Scout sign-up event will be held on Sept. 3 at St Peter’s United Metodist Church, 20775 Kingsland Blvd. from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Help your daughter develop confidence, leadership skills, self-worth and moral, ethical and social values that provide the foundation for a successful future.

Upcoming events at the Katy Visual and Performing Arts Center during the month of September are: Saturday Family Art Workshops. A Plush Workshop will be held on Sept. 12, and an Art for Your Yard Workshop on Sept. 26 from 10 a.m.-noon at KVPAC, 2501 S. Mason Road, No. 290 in Katy. Make collaborative arts and crafts projects as a family. A parent must attend with children. This is a mixed-age class for pre-K to age 12. Adults are free, $15/first child and $10/siblings. KVPAC's Masquerade & Martini Mixer will be held on Sept. 17 from 6:30 p.m.-10 p.m. at Agave Road, 1016 FM 1463 in Katy. This is the annual gala hosted by KVPAC ´s Board of Trustees benefiting the Katy Visual & Performing Arts Center. Enjoy an evening of food, silent auction, cash bar and live entertainment.
